Great dental habits start young – and the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) makes it easier for families to access essential care. If your child is eligible, they may receive up to $1,132 in dental benefits over two calendar years, funded entirely by the Australian Government.
We’re here to help you understand and maximise these benefits, so your child can enjoy a healthier smile without the stress of significant out-of-pocket costs. Where possible, we will provide 100% bulk-billing treatment.
What’s Covered by CDBS?
The CDBS covers a wide range of dental services for children aged 0-17, including both preventative and restorative care. If your child is eligible, they can receive:
- Routine checkups and cleans
- X-rays, fluoride treatments, and fissure sealants
- Fillings, root canals, and extractions (if needed)
This program encourages regular visits that help catch problems early and reduce future dental issues.
The CDBS does not cover any form of orthodontic treatment either in a general or specialist setting, and usually does not cover any or very little towards cosmetic procedures or custom fitted appliances such as a mouthguard either.
How It Works
To qualify, your child must:
- Be aged 0-17 years and eligible for Medicare
- Receive a relevant government payment such as Family Tax Benefit Part A
No need to apply – eligibility is assessed automatically each year. Bring your child’s Medicare card to the appointment and we can check directly if your family is eligible, and we’ll process claims directly so there’s no paperwork or delays. If you are eligible, you will have to sign a consent form every year to confirm you are happy to use these benefits.
